Forming a Private think tank

I'm looking at forming a small group of people to partake in a market think tank where we help and push each other to understand the current market(s), sentiment and macro environment. The main purpose is to lighten the work load and expand into as many markets as possible with ease.

The problem I have is keeping track of the fundamentals/ sentiment for everything 24/7. I'm thinking what would be good is to find a group of people to specialize in one specific area. Maybe a couple of people for each one. And all they would do is keep a blog on their specific currency/ commodity/ stock market etc.

So maybe I'm in charge of the AUD, so all I would have to do is keep track of the AUD and anytime anything significant happens that is specifically related to the Aussie, I would just post a chart to explain the move.

So with 10 or so people doing the same thing for their relevant currencies, we get a running summary of a very large area of the market. This would be a very valuable thing if it could work. And would not take much time for each person to simply track the movements and events of just one currency or whatever. What do you think of that?

Currently I just watch basically what I can which is generally the AUD, EUR, GBP, and I miss so much action from the others as I am unable to stay on top of them. So maybe I will get a really good looking set up from the NZD/GBP but because I'm in the dark about the current happenings on the NZD I'm unable to confidently pull the trigger.

I'm not sure how productive this could be, what could be gained in a private group setting that can't be gained by studying individually.

problems I see:

-people hear what they want to hear
-people share what they want to share
-everyone studies/learns at a different pace
-you didn't really specify your policy re: pornography properly

Most of the things you mentioned apply to me and I think we are in the same timezone, might be cool to start like a book/study club or something but I think it would need to be very loosely organised and accomodating to allow everyone to do their own thing at their own pace.

without giving too much away.. the aim is NOT to form a group consensus in market bias, but to help each other establish the FACTS, and share strategies, tactics, etc..

The main purpose though is for people who exploit information flow, (these people know who they are).. And to lighten that load.. Many hands light work, I guess that would be our mission statement!... Facts are facts, opinions are opinions... Facts are the goal..

I agree that working independently one is free from being swayed by opinion.. The goal is definitely to avoid this.. Trade calls are not wanted, nor needed.

I will give this two to four weeks to see how much interest there is... If none then I won't die wondering.

I am though hoping to establish a professional setting... One that participants can take pride in.

What I aim to achieve is the forum we all want but never have, which is open sharing and learning, as well as productive and enhanced growth.

So... Ego's are not welcomed, rules are nigh, and any questions should not be feared to be asked.. Winning will be the inevitable result through a common goal.

A brick-and-mortar deal would probably last longer because real commitment is necessary.

Great idea, but every participant needs to show commitment. And each must be given incentive to stay on the group and contribute.

I've been longing for this kind of group for a while. I'm on a skype room filled with traders, but it's hard to connect in terms of timezone. We need to meet face to face, locally. Like a cell group. That way you get the feeling of a community. A simple chat room you can log in and out anytime you want is not effective.

The only way to make this work is to treat it professionally. Make a formal group. Set up meetings and agenda. Delegate tasks. Give people responsibility, etc.

You're in Australia aren't you Cindy? Uh, but I'm in Perth, the most isolated city to trade forex from =( Besides, I can't fulfill your requirements anyway.

this sounds like an idea I'm very interested in. I myself have tried to establish such a forex group in the past however I haven't been able to find people with the same passion and hunger for knowledge to strive and be the best they can be.
I would appreciate it and I would very much look forward to possibly share and trade alongside trading peers with the same ideology as this is very hard to find in my opinion.

Sounds to me like another Bilderberg Club.

I've had a few more PM's and just need to say, it's not for a technical analysis or system sharing, trade calling communiquae (is that a word? oh well sounded wicked)... It's also not for teaching others how to trade, but of course people are free to share what they want,it is just not the main purpose.

The main aim is to discuss, and define what is going on OFF the charts. Just needed to say that
If you think you can do that and stay interested in doing that then, you're welcome.

Anyway please pay attention to the parts in bold, if you're still new to trading then it would probably just be a waste of your time.

so, having said that...

you might consider creating your own group at http://meetup.com ?

i see that they already have a category of THINK TANK.

or maybe you could establish it via one of the many public chat systems and you could moderate it?

I respect your posts but I think this is an idea that's going to end up falling flat on its face. The discussion is too broad and the goal of the analysis is a little unclear - you mention an understanding of order flow but that pretty much goes straight to "where the orders are" - and hence we have a straight track to the nightmare of flawed technical analysis that plagues this board. Do we use fibonacci, trend lines, pivot levels, etc? Or are we more sophisticated than that?

cindy suggested a few topics that would be might be fun to dig into..

or maybe you can suggest another angle that needs to be disassembled?

What about doing like... a topic per week? Maybe vote on a few suggestions for the topic, then over the week, present what one's views are on the topic and then talk/debate with one another. Maybe come back to that topic a few weeks/months later.

Like, the first topic could be: What's your view on the current state of the American economy and what you think will happen within the decade concerning the American colony. The next would be: The Chinese drilling in the disputed territories drew attention from the Japanese Navy.(I believe it was the navy) What effects do you think this will have on the the economies of China, Japan, and even Australia.

Something like that.
