Book to Learn MQL?

Hello i'm a program developer and also a trader. I want to program in MQL where i can find a book that explain this language.

Start by learning just enough to open then close a trade on a simple condition. (Bid>EMA) -- (Bid<EMA). Thats the basics, then add more conditions until you have your strategy. Starting this way will ease you into MT4 and produce a small piece of working code that actually places orders (Incredible to see the first time) - Enjoy this time because afterward you'll have the burden of trying to make the trades generate profit (WELCOME to the Terror Dome!!)

Start with the code base, which has lots of simple examples, gradually explaining next steps and options etc.

There are a lot of examples which explain the basics.

A metatrader programme is basically set up, hook into indicators, wait for ticks, grab indicator values and make a call to buy, sell or wait.

That's it, really.

MT5 and MQL5 are not ready for the real world and it will be a long time before they are. Like a lot of other advances in technology, the latest is not always the greatest and there is great resistance to change when the current version is good enough. Keep in mind that 99% of the code in this forum is written in MQL4.

MQL5 offers some goodies to techies like debugging and true event handling. But traders and brokers have found no compelling reason to switch and until they do, MT5 is DOA.

The best reference I've found is first in looking at the MetaEditor help by searching and reading up on the various topics by category, then when I find the description or how to implement a particular function a bit lacking I do a search online. Just type the function right into your search window and you will get some pages with samples.

For specific functions or topics that are of interest I google how to close all orders in MT4 or how to trade once per bar in MT4 or how to clear all objects off a window in MT4 etc. That being said, after looking at the information out there I've been writing up a few MQL4 code tutorials as a resource for myself and other traders and putting them in the public domain as I've come to a problem and have solved it with code.

MQL4 / MQL5 alternative to learn would be the use of "Forex EA and Script Generator" by Etasoft. Easy and fast.

Go through the scripts database on mql4.com. Lots of helpful stuff there. Check the documentation along with it an start playing around.
