Hi all,

and hope to be in the right section of the forum.

I know there are 4 major cross:

eur/usd
gbp/usd
usd/chf
usd/jpy

which are the most traded.

Are there any more cross to be traded, which spreads are more less like the 4 major, and with the same (more less) volatility and liquidity?

Consider the other two majors: AUD/USD, USD/CAD
Low spreads and nice volatility: EUR/JPY
Low spreads but not-so-good volatility: EUR/GBP

Those are not crosses. Crosses are pairs without the Dollar involved so EUR/JPY or GBP/JPY...

eurgbp have a double value. It's somethink like 1 pip on eurgbp = 2 pip on eur.usd. Open a position and see for yourself. So, eur/gbp have enough volatility

Out of those pairs it goes like this:

eur/usd
usd/jpy
usd/chf
gbp/usd

EUR/GBP's pip value is in GBP (always look at the 2nd currency in the pair), so "something like" is simply the value of GBP, which right now is about $1.64...
Crosses are actually when your home currency isn't involved.
sorry about the mistake: cross or pairs for me was the same.
I'd like to trade some more couple with the best spread and volatility....

I cambi molto volatili, ma che riescono a mentenere uno spread basso sono sostanzialmente due: EUR/JPY e GBP/USD.
Quanto a volatilità, il migliore in assoluto è il GBP/JPY, ma gli spread sono troppo elevati.
Mentre il più profittevole, a parità di movimento, è l' EUR/GBP, in quanto i guadagni (e le perdite) sono in sterline.
AUD/USD e USD/CAD sono, come le altre 4 majors, da tenere sempre in considerazione, anche se non ci operi direttamente, in quanto ti permettono di avere un'idea completa della situazione a livello globale.

Per riassumere, secondo le tue esigenze, i cambi più adatti sono:
EUR/USD (n.1 per liquidità), GBP/USD (n.1 per volatilità), EUR/JPY (volatilità + liquidità).

Do per scontato che non fai trading prima-durante-dopo le news.

ciao fa molto piacere trovare un compaesano in terra straniera! io utilizzo un ts che sceglie da se in base a parametri preimpostati una sola coppia di valute tra i 4 maggiori cross, e quindi gia opero su euro dollaro e cable.

a questo punto volevo pero ulteriormente diversifica e qjuindi cerca vo altre 2 coppie da aggiungere. una me l hai indicata, euro / jen e l'altra?

According to a bank report that I saw in late 2008, in order these were the top traded major pairs to trade:

  1. EURUSD
  2. USDJPY
  3. GBPUSD
  4. AUDUSD
  5. USDCHF
  6. USDCAD

It seems unusual that the AUD was ahead of the CHF. But it might be because of the dependence of commodity currencies like the AUD are first to rebound after depression, and CHF is being seen more and more as the little EURO. Have a look at correlation studies of EUR and CHF based pairs, You'll see what I mean.


However, any pair where both currencies are from the top 4 currencies, will always have good liquidity and volatility:
USD 1
EUR 2
JPY 3
GBP 4
EURUSD, USDJPY, GBPUSD, EURJPY, GBPJPY and EURGBP

Currencies 5 to 7 have good liquidity and volatility when paired with the USD or JPY
AUD 5
CHF 6
CAD 7
AUDJPY, AUDUSD, CADJPY, CHFJPY, USDCAD and USDCHF.

The EUR or GBP with the AUD, CHF or CAD, can create huge volatility, however, the liquidity to support this volatility can sometimes be missing.
