This is probably because you've left TimeFrame = M5 and there are no M5 candles earlier than 7 days ago.

Make the TimeFrame setting blank, and the indy will use candles in the same TF as the chart to which it's attached.

I will look at the changes you asked for, when I finally get around to releasing a new version of the indy.

Thanks for this wonderful Indi. I downloaded the latest version posted on post #1 but I am getting following message. I even tried it on different brokers but got same message. The old version I have is working fine, but the latest one is getting this message. Could you please look into this.

Thanks for your reply. I am using Windows XP Service Pack 3. All your other indicators are working except this one. Luckily I have the old version, and it is working fine, so I will just use that one.

I have mine set up to plot a filled box around the start and end hours with the horizontal lines extending a few hours forward from the top and bottom of the range

My setup:
LookbackDays: 999999999
StartHours: 14.00
EndHours: 15.00
ExtendHours: 38.0
Properties: FTH2P

1) Is there a way to get the indicator to plot the horizontal lines up to the end of each day?

2) Is there a way to get the indicator to plot the horizontal lines up to the start of the next day's StartHours?

3) Is there a way to get the indicator to plot additional parallel horizontal lines a certain distance above and below the existing horizontal lines? User defined choice would include:
> a user-defiend pip count above/below the existing horizontal lines
> a user-defined % above/below the existing horizontal lines
> fibonacci ratio distances above/below the existing horizontal lines
> Murrey Math line distances above/below the existing horizontal lines
> standard deviation distances above/below the existing horizontal lines
> average volatility distances above/below the existing horizontal lines

4) How can I add alerts when the price crosses any of these horizontal lines?

Thanks for the feedback. No donations are necessary, the indicator is provided free of charge to anybody who wants to use it.

Setting ExtendHours = 24 will plot horiz lines up to midnight (end of the current day).

2) Is there a way to get the indicator to plot the horizontal lines up to the start of the next day's StartHours?
Set ExtendHours = 24 + the value of StartHours. Please read post #1 for more detailed info, and feel welcome to experiment with the settings.

3) Is there a way to get the indicator to plot additional parallel horizontal lines a certain distance above and below the existing horizontal lines? User defined choice would include:

This could only be achieved by further programming. I'm sorry, but I'm currently too busy with this project to undertake any other major work. And I would need more info: e.g. standard deviation of what?; how is the volatility measured?; what is Murrey math? (I've never heard of it). The indy is provided on an 'as is' basis, free of charge, and with source code if anybody wants to modify it.

4) How can I add alerts when the price crosses any of these horizontal lines?
This would likewise require further programming - see my reply to point (3). However, you could use another indy like Tesla's Alerter, or Alerter 2, to plot additional lines at the same levels. Alerter would then alert you when price moves within X pips of these levels.

I've no idea why the new version is not working for you - it's been downloaded more than 100 times, and nobody else has reported a similar problem. Perhaps there is something different about your PC configuration? I have no way of knowing. The latest version runs fine on my PC (OS=Win XP Home SP2; br0ker=GoMarkets MT4 build 401).

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you have an earlier version working OK.

Hi David. I have spent over an hour trying to get a single horizontal line (not ray) from the open of a bar. Just "O" should do it. But it does not seem to work. Any idea what I am missing?

The only other possibilities I can think of are:

1. Your Visibility parameter doesn't include the chart TF that you're currently looking at.

2. Your DaysOfWeek parameter is set to empty.

3. The M5 chart for that pair has invalid or missing data. You could try changing the TimeFrame parameter to something else. Setting it to an empty value will cause it to use the current chart's TF.

Thanks for your quick response to my previous questions. I will look into having someone add the additional parallel horizontal lines + alerts for me.

For some reason, the indicator doesn't plot on any time frame higher than M15 for me, not sure why yet
I have Visibility set to M1,M5,M15,M30,H1,H4.
I have TimeFrame set to empty.
I have DaysOfWeek set to Mon,Tue,Wed,Thu,Fri.

Note: Only other indicator on the chart is Murrey Math Line X eng found here. No other EAs attached to chart.

I'm running WinXP Pro SP2; br0ker is FXCM Demo U.S. MT4 build 401.

The attached two indicators have simply been added to the chart, as is, no parameter changes. I downloaded the Murrey indy directly from the link that you gave, and changed nothing.

I wish that I could help you further, but I just can't reproduce the problem.

I hope that you are able to find a programmer to add the extra lines for you.

Thanks David. The picture you posted is exactly what I am trying to acheive. I have played around with it again and cannot get it to work. I have therefore installed your custom indicator you have created for me and it is working perfectly. Thanks. You are amazing.

Now, where on earth do you get the time to help so many people !?!

ps, I use your indicator 4 times :-) One to show the start of the week, one to show the london open each day, one for a box and one for a line from the the open of a bar. It's just an awesome peice of coding.

OK, download the latest version from post #1, for the quick'n'dirty solution.

Attach one instance of the indy, to plot the top box, as follows:
Properties = FTP>
UniqueID = #1

Attach a second instance of the indy, to draw the bottom box:
Properties = FTP<
UniqueID = #2

The 'T' property means that the boxes will be plotted between the StartTime and EndTime.

The 'P' property will display box heights - if you follow the instructions in post #1. If the bottom box's displayed...

Let's say I have start time at 9:00am gmt and end time 9:59am gmt which gives a range of 19 pips (viz. range calculated from highest high and lowest low of this period). Now I want to see once the highest high or lowest low of this period is breached how far price go in pips in next 2 hours or 4 hours etc. See attached chart as example.

Hi Alifari,

You can always plot a box from 9:00 to 10:00 if you wish, and then use MT4's built-in ruler (explained in section "Crosshair mode, and ruler tool") to measure the pips from the edge of the box to the high or low of any candle, or any other point on the chart.

Anyway, if that is unsatisfactory, I think it would be better if this was done by creating a new indicator, especially as (IMO) this is a rather unusual request, and the indy is already very complex.

However, the source code is available if another programmer wants to attempt it.

Thanks for your reply. I actually wanted that feature for backtesting purpose, as I am checking numerous pairs for a breakout strategy. I guess I will have to do it manually.

Well, OK then, you've convinced me. I'll see what I can do in a couple of hours.

When I said "too complex", I meant that the indy was already generating lots of Q&A and didn't want to risk any more.

Try the attached, starting with the default parameters. This should produce something like the first screenshot.

The initial line/box (green) does the usual pip count from StartHours to EndHours, and works exactly as before. See post #1 for more info.

The secondary lines (white) count any additional pips between EndHours and ExtendHours, and use the color in TextProperties for plotting both their text and line colors. If price doesn't break outside the initial line/box, in a given direction, then no secondary line/text is plotted. The SecondaryPipCount must also be set to TRUE.
